Staying Up-to-Date

In the ever-changing world of smartphones, keeping your device updated and connected is essential. If you own an Xperia smartphone released in May 2022 or after, there are some important changes you need to be aware of regarding software updates and data transfers.

Software Updates for Xperia Smartphones Released in May 2022 and After

If you own an Xperia smartphone released in May 2022 or later, you won’t be able to use the software update function in Xperia Companion. Instead, you need to configure your device’s data transfer settings when connecting it to your computer. Here’s how: after connecting your Xperia smartphone to your computer using a USB cable, navigate to [Settings] > [Device connection] > [USB] on your phone. From there, select [File Transfer] under [Use USB for]. This setting ensures that your Xperia smartphone communicates effectively with your computer for seamless data transfer.

Changes in Data Transfer Methods

For Xperia smartphones released before 2018, there’s a shift in data transfer methods. The “iCloud backup” function, previously used to transfer data from iOS phones to Xperia smartphones predating 2018, will no longer be supported starting from June 2020. However, you can still use “iTunes backup” to transfer data from iOS phones to Xperia smartphones released before 2018. It’s essential to choose the right method based on your device’s release year to ensure a smooth transfer process.
